Various - Eclipse - A Journey Of Permanence & Impermanence

A celebration of the full solar eclipse in Baleshwaar, india this album of ambient psychedelic dub is,"a journey of permanence and impermanence" and voyage into deep ambient and far beyond into the stars. From grand beginnings of Shpongle's first track "...and the day turned to night" (20.30) full of the ambience of india and melodic flutes blended perfectly with a cocktail of liquid jungle beats, through the dub chill of Dubstuff. The tribal beats and vocals of Anubis' 'invocation' and into Doof's title track 'Baleshwaar Balesheesh' complete with audio samples from the solar eclipse itself. Not content, there are world ambient offerings from France's Total Eclipse and colloboration between Doof and Hallucinogen in the form of Nomads of Dub with the smooth ambient trance of 'Spirals'. a powerful blend of exotic and spiritual sounds generated from analogue recordings and hi-tech digital manipulation of mankind and nature's response to the most overwhelming astronomical phenomenon- the total eclipse of the sun. the starting point for each track is a series of recordings made before, during and after the solar eclipse witnessed in india in 1996. the album represents a musical journey carefully crafted in response to this event by simon posford (aka hallucinogen) and colleagues whose expanding horizons encompass styles as diverse as drum and bass, dub and ambient. this is an undeniably positive album guaranteed to soothe, seduce and satisfy genuine music lovers of all persuasions.

Tracks:

And The Day Turned To Night
Dubstuff
Invocation
Equinox
Balashwaar Baksheesh
Nakano Ghost
Purple Pygmies
Spirals
Prometheus - Sunspot

Time Bandit and Sunspot are two old Prometheus tracks from the early days of Twisted Records. They are lighter and smoother than the first few twisted 12's with their harder more tech-trance feel, bring a welcome lift to the sound of Twisted Records, with their cymbal led percussion and uplifting sky surfing melodies.

Time Bandit a solid groove, thrashing cymbal intensive percussion that lifts into twinkling melody lines before crashing back into its tribal kick twisted effects and funky swing. Light but intensive this is a track that will keep the late night dancefloor alive.

Sunspot the deepest kick known to man or computer is topped by melodies that drop like sonic water from above, squelching synths all interspersed by the funkiest of bongo grooves riding on a plane of cymbal shuffles. This is a track that will lift the dancer onto another plane as it works the listener into trance, breaks back and then belts them into the ride with its driving bass, cymbal shuffle and dirty fx's. A light groove track with deep undertones, watch out for it.

Tracks:

Sunspot
Time Bandit
MP3 - Hot 4 U

MP3 - Hot 4 U
This commercial dance release by Simon Posford and Ott was released only as vinyl on Twisted's sub-label Straight Records. You can hear the production in there, but the content is like nothing you could imagine from them. Quite hysterical in retrospect, this is well worth having for comedy value. It was well received by the commercial crowd at the time but thank the Lord they didn't follow that path eh?

Tracks:

Hot 4 U - Club Mix
Hot 4 U - Radio Edit
Hot 4 U - Alternative Edit

GBU - GBU'd EP
One of GBU's first ever tracks called 'GBU'd' and also Dimitri's 10-minute long edit of the classic track 'Pura Vida'. More classics for the collection.

Tracks:

Pura Vida - Dimitri 10 min Edit
GBU'd
Tristan - Inside Out EP

Following the sucess of his collaborations and solo trax released on labels such as 21:3 and TIP, we celebrate Tristan joining us at Twisted Records in the A&R department with his first solo release since last summer.

The "INSIDE OUT" EP: Slip one on a turntable to find two full-on tracks and one laid back 'drum and space' remix. To ensure a Totally Twisted reaction we have utilised advanced special technology to create an A-side that plays from the inside out!! On side-A, we find Tristan creating the sound of Kung-Fu fighting in space as he develops his own peculiar "Martian Arts".

" Far from Eye" has, in Tristan's own words, "Nothing to do with your eyes, and everything to do with the space inside your head".

Adding another spin on the inter-dimensional post-party chill out vibe is the latest Process mutant offspring, a "drum and space" remix of the Tristan track "Space Sage".

Tracks:

Far From Eye
Space Sage Remix
Martian Arts
Synthetic - Metal Gear / 100% Pure

Frederic Holyszewski (aka Dado of Transwave and Deedrah) is the man behind this hot new act and he has already played over 10 live gigs worldwide to promote the single. The A side Metal Gear is as it sounds a metallic monster with plenty of oomph! This was a favourite with trance DJ's at the time and was dropped twice within half an hour of each airing at the Qube party (24th March 2001) like the soundtrack to some metallic marathon this is a tool box of monster kicks and robotic precision. The B Side is called 100% pure and it sure is, pure punch a rumbling bass throb with cutting edge synthetic percussion this minimal rhythmic tech-trance paves the way for a new direction in the twisted catalogue.

Tracks:

Metal Gear
100% Pure

Benji Vaughan - Previews
'Colt' and 'Tailors Machine' are two new tracks from Benji Vaughan for his new down-tempo electronica album. These are just the first mixdowns but we think they're sounding great! This is the kind of style that he will be using to warm up the Roundhouse in Camden before the Shpongle LIVE gig on October 31st 2008. Thoughtful intelligent electronica from our Promethean Robot.

Tracks:

Colt - Mix 1
Taylors Machine - Mix 1

"The Loin King"
Another Trevor-esque tone to this one but soon intergated by the pheneomenal sonic manipulation of the Hallucinogenic master with rising melodies and gated kicks piling on the pressure that build into an epic finale that floats away into the depths.

"Loin Sleeps Tonight"
A thrashing 303 ride to heaven this absolute classic of a track hasn't collected any dust on it's supersonic surface, with the Twisted influence of Dick Trevor from The Green Nuns of The Revolution with his 303(devilfish conversion) solo's and a stonking rock kick that rise into Hallucinogen spirals of synths and waves of electrons to reach a peak of musical expression before funking back into the deepest rawest 303 lines your ears are ever lightly to witness this is pure unadulterated psy-funk travelling at the speed of light across any dancefloor beware the 303 twister!

Tracks:

Loin King
The Loin Sleeps Tonight
Hence the quick follow up with a second single. Synthetic has formed the sound of the winter and created the dancelfoor version, to be played long into the dark nights.

Cosmos 99: Surging out of the darkness like an industrial machine, this track is a techno stomper with a funky edge. Waves of percussive cymbals and drums wash over the driving kick as a synth line takes you deeper into the darkness. The punishing force of the track is held back for a moment while astronaut communications crackle through the ether covered by the sound of screaming tyres as a car careers around the outside of the track. The tune breaks for a moment's silence, before kicking back in for a final onslaught of rhythm riding mayhem.

Cyclone: look out, here comes another tech stonker, this time a hard bouncing kick is kept grooving by a simple synth line and some mad effects, screeching tyres and other snarling psy sounds. Sure to show any dancefloor the meaning of serious dancing this track is irresistible with its relentless beats and psychotic sounds forcing you into submission willingly. There are the same trademark surprise break backs as in the first track and an overall lighter hard house feel to the cymbals and general ride.

Tracks:

Cosmos 99
Cosmos 99 - Beat Mix
Cosmos 99 - Different Mix
Slave Driver
Cyclone
Trickster - Turquoise Mood / Y3K

Currently totally sold out on vinyl and totally unavailable. This is the only place to get hold of this classic collaborative EP between Tristan and Dick Trevor. Keep reading for more info.

Trickster, is a unique collaboration between two world famous Twisted artists Tristan and Dick Trevor, of The Green Nuns of The Revolution fame and now as 'Science Department; with Danny Howells. "Turquoise Mood" A wigged out breakbeat intro lays the suspense for what is one of our best dance tracks this year, a tech fuelled bongo stomper that will shake any dancefloor and bring out the tribal spirit in all. One of the tightest bongo drum breaks known to man or computer hurtles this track far into the dance universe. With a consistent beat and a selection of synth stabs and washes the track hurtles along at breakneck speed maintaining a solid trancestate. This is not a traditional psy-trance release though instead a highly produced Tech/house fused dance classic sure to appeal to a wide-ranging audience.

Y3K - A pure tech-teaser this is tech-trance at its greatest, a smooth electrified journey into modern trance.Y3K a satirical comment on the whole Y2K fiasco shows how computer systems can be made to run smoothly by the example of this slick trance track. Halted only by the odd Oscar synthesiser scratch this is effectively a warm solid psy floor filler with a funky electro edge. Towards the end as Y3k reaches it's culmination you will feel the track beginning to build in intensity and things move up a notch into a faster pounding trance groove

Tracks:

Y3K
Turquoise Mood
Various - GMS (The Twisted Remixes)

GMS RMX's
The idea behind this remix concept was a straight swap between mainstream psy trance artists GMS remix two Twisted tracks and our main man and master producer Hallucinogen remix oneof their tracks to be released on Spun Records. The results are a stunning fusion of experienced production, youthful energy, and dance floor sensibility. the finger [gms remix] another dancefloor classic 'The Finger' by Simon Posford aka Hallucinogen & Benji Vaughan aka Prometheus, or Younger Brother as they are now known, once again given the full treatment by the GMS boys, Riktam, Bansi, and Shanti. Once again they turn their psychedelic hand to the task and come up with a storming mix, hurtling along, in their classic bubbling synthy GMS sound, they take original elements, change the timings, add extra lines, and add to the character of the original while still presenting their own unique take on, 'The Finger'. gamma goblins [gms remix] a track that has been doing the rounds with the top dj's internationally finally hits the streets,' Gamma Goblins', the product of Hallucinogenius Simon Posford gets a thorough reworking by top Tipsters, The Growling Mad Scientists otherwise known as GMS. This track has been lighting up dancefloors globally and would undoubtedly been one of the hits at yesterdays Full Solar Eclipse in South Africa and in Australia. A rip roaring fire snorting synth ride into the universe it is surely one of the fastest funkiest dance tracks around at the moment and has shown its effectiveness in Greece, Japan, and on countless other occasions recently. So now you have a chance to own this track yourself as it finally gets its official release through Hallucinogen's own label Twisted Records.

Tracks:

The Finger - GMS Remix
Gamma Goblins - GMS Remix
Hallucinogen - Deranger

"Deranger"
"I'm going to lead you kicking and screaming, giggling and laughing into the future, I'm going to relax you, I'm going to get you"... This original partystarter the track that catapulted Hallucinogen into the light with it's unstoppable pounding kick and Hallucinogenius effects, sending Simon Posford's skills far and wide across global dancefloors and turning on many dancing minds. Deranger is a mind boggling journey into sound with all of Hallucinogen trademark flanges, breakdowns, supersonics, and full surround sound three dimensional acoustics.

"Gamma Goblins"
With it's spooky horror film intro, this track is reminiscent of Hallucinogen's West country origins and all the spooky pagan going's on that surround that area, Gamma Goblins are modern versions of those pervading spirits given a full sonic facelift and turned into systhetic sound. The spooky sounds lead into a thunderous set of irresistable beats to set the dancelfoor alight. The pounding continues into a heavily complex array of drums that are joined by spiralling keyboards and off into space. Includes bonus track "Synthesizzler"

Tracks:

Deranger
Gamma Goblins
Synthesizzler
Beast - Spawn/ Trouble EP

This is our heartfelt response to the general lack of any discernable feeling in trance music today. We have sweated blood and worked our fingers to the bone in order to present these two tracks of incredible beauty and psychedelic warmth that catapult the listener into the next dimension of sonic ecstasy and ensure total dancefloor mayhem every time or your money back!!! But seriously...Beast combines the inventive spatial-techno style of process with the luxurious production and immaculate structuring that only hallucinogen can deliver. We at twisted firmly believe that this EP is our strongest to date and is merely a hint of what is to come. Minimalist ideas have an important role to play and we are aware of this, but this release is an example of just what is possible when real musicians pull out all the stops to produce the most advanced music available.

Tracks:

Spawn
Trouble
Trouble - Psilocybin Remix
GBU - Pura Vida / Mescalito

THE GOOD, THE BAD, & THE UGLY (Frederic Holyszewski, Serge Souque and Dimitri Nakov ) reputation precedes them like Clint Eastwood's character in his films still consistently turning out top quality tunes from their studio at Casa Irene studios, Calla Bassa, Ibiza. Their tracks have been played repeatedly by several different DJ's at all the largest parties and festivals over the summer, including VOOV's 10th anniversary in Germany, the Sola Luna festival in Greece recently and the Solstice Music Festival at Mt. Fuji in Japan in July to name but a few. DJ favourites worldwide G.B.U. tracks are guaranteed dance floor fuel with the engaging samples, dedicated production and incessant beats they have proved successful on many an international crowd. Now Twisted Records brings you two more natural born killers from the G.B.U. on this vinyl only release.

MESCALITO
Continuing in their tradition of classic samples 'Mescalito' begins' with an extract from Clint Eastwood with an Indian saying. "Getting better at sneaking up on you likes this" Clint replies, "only an Indian can do something like that". This sample gives Mescalito its introductory sense of the mystery which is further built by a barrage of broken beats, waves of electrics, weird sounds, and heavy kicks. The track rides off into the sunset where it is stretched into a long synth slide until with the reinstalled kicks becomes a huge growling groove riding hard across the desert. Finally the Mescalito takes another shift in gear and speeds until it is positively galloping along while the synths explode into a shower of electronic squeals squelches and stardust. Mescalito is one monster of a track so get on your horse and get ready to ride!

PURA VIDA
Pure Vibes – starts of with a grainy sample from the cult movie Easy Rider; Peter Fonda offering an alcoholic Jack Nicholson a grass joint, who replies 'oh no, I've got enough problem's with the booze an all, I can't afford to get hooked'. This theme repeats along the track with the words, "can't afford to get hooked" and "light it up", echoing through the music with the inevitable results of the spliff causing hysterics with a very stoned Jack Nicholson supposedly spotting a satellite surfing across the sky. All the G.B.U. tracks are belters but this is a particularly good party track with thunderous bass beats pounding out of the speaker's huge sound rushes and poignant breaks. Pure Vibes really is just that pure good vibes party sounds to rock any dance floor with its ultimate power and dynamic delivery.

Tracks:

Pura Vida
Mescalito
Mescalito - Synthetic Remix
Shpongle - Divine Moments Of Truth

Instumental Mix
"…it was like a gigantic creature".... The opening lines of this record forewarns the listener of the impending scale of this tune. Another huge track from Shpongle (aka Simon Posford and Raja Ram), these DMT Remixes are taken from the highly successful first Shpongle album released in 1998. The remixes show a far more intense side to this ambient project with the culmination of two full on dancefloor stonkers. The Instrumental side is a mix of ricochet-like percussion that rides on a massive bass vibe with a solid kick that builds until it hits a plateau of tribal beats that form into a huge swinging groove accentuated by the bounciest funkiest percussion your ears have ever encountered. These percussive breaks build until they explode into a wave of deep chants and liquid effects where the 'gigantic creature' appears again before flicking back into a series of phased drum breaks. At this point the track takes on a solid bass trance as the elastic squelches hover over a pulsing bass and a series of tribal chants. The track spirals higher and higher into a frenzied set of breaks, beats, ethnic chants, and unimaginable effects before dropping back into a kick and fading off into space.

Shpongle Trance Mix
The B side features extracts of the familiar reversed vocal samples and DMT utterings from the original, and more of the ultimately funky ricocheted beats that bounce all over the track while simon builds a solid bedrock of tribal drums and chants beneath them. with the inclusion of some of the lsd samples the track suddenly goes tech. and splinters into a wave of electro melodies. again the "gigantic creature", appears and now the track breaks down into a thick set of tribal drums loops. phasers, effects, and a chorus of computerised voices float their ambience over the track covering it in an ambient bliss before switching back into the staccato funk breaks of this uniquely effervescent percussion. the lightning breaks and vocal samples fly out at supersonic speed into space and end with the words, "i want to do it again really soon, and take more".

Shpongle Original Russian Bootleg Mix
This is actually the original mix which was ironically found on a bootleg stall in Russia. When they went to master this EP they found they didn't have the original copy, only this bootleg. It sounded as good as the original so here it is! The originial but with a story.

Tracks:

Divine Moments Of Truth - Instrumental Remix
Divine Moments Of Truth - Shpongle Trance Remix
Divine Moments Of Truth - Original Russian Bootleg Mix
Various - Demented

'Demented' is the second instalment of Twisted classics, following on from the success of the first compilation 'Dementertainment' this second edition takes the music one stage further. A showcase of Twisted's finest talent 'Demented' explores new areas of trance pushing the boundaries of sonic experimentation into the new millennium.

The album starts off with Mi-Loony-Um! A track by label mastermind, Simon Posford (aka Hallucinogen), it was made especially for the millennium and played infront of 6,000 people in South Africa at midnight on New Year's Eve. The track begins with the sounds of harpsichords and strings and progresses through time to the present day with Simon's trademark gated kicks and arpeggio's punctuated by the staccato electronic bleeps and squeaks of modem's initialising and off into more complex modem melodies.

Next up is an updated version of one of the best tracks from the now legendary 'Shpongle' album, D.M.T. This remix gives new life to the familiar aquatised jungle beats and synthesized voices with a double funked up mix for the dancefloor.
Trixster is a collaboration between two big names in the trance world Tristan international DJ and creator of the recent Audiodrome (TWSTLP9) LP and Dick Trevor of Green Nuns fame and more recently as a member of Science Department with Danny Howells). This tech-bongo rocker chugs on its steady kick and a set of incredibly funky drum breaks. Dancefloor fodder for the connoisseur.

Hallucinogen Beautiful People, opens with a sample from Bill Hicks proclaiming Jesus' return "I'm back" he is, but he never said what mood he'd be in, this is a fully spangled journey into your psyche-delia.

Tristan returns with Small Paper Squares an expanding progressive groove that swells into warp factor 9 and rides on an electro plateau holding the dancefloor in its grip.

Doof reveals the more subtle side of trance with a squelchy sub-bass journey into trance, this hypnotic groover pulses smoothly across the trancefloor.

Prometheus on the other hand offers us a tech-breaks session; plenty of industrial electro sounds, focused break downs and clear synth leads.

Younger Brother (Simon Posford & Benji Vaughan) leave the listener with a mellow journey out west, cowboy guitar rifts underpinned by a classic hallucinogen progression swathed in ethereal chants and atmospheres.

Altogether a complete package of exclusive trance gems, from the ecstatic beginnings of Mi-Loomy Um! Through the solid dancefloor stonkers from Shpongle, Trixster, and Tristan and off into the ambient worlds of Doof and our Younger Brother.

Tracks:

Mi-Loony-Um!
Divine Moments Of Truth - Remix
Turquoise Mood
Beautiful People - Otts Mix
Small Paper Squares
Chemical Energy
MK Ultra
Evil And Harm

Dementertainment was the first showcase into the Twisted sound, opening with Promethean Process', 'Clarity From Deep Fog' you enter a new world of electronica with washes of psychedelic sounds that merge into a thunderous beat and start off an album that gets more full on varied and colourful as you go. Flowing into the 'Spawn' by the Beast the album begins to really rock with an amazing array of sounds and styles. The techno trance of Infernal Machine, psychedelia of Hallucinogen and deep chug of F.A.T. and the classic trance of X-Dream.

An epic release from Twisted... virtually impossible to get hold on CD and now, in a high quality MP3 quality format for you listening pleasure.

Tracks:

Clarity From Deep Fog
Spawn
Nocturnal Chainsaw Kerfuffle
The Loin King - Man With No Name Remix
Megalithic
Spiritual Antiseptic
Hundreds Of Sunsets - Mono Mix
Rain
Digital Mystery Tour - Digital Mystery Tour

DIGITAL MYSTERY TOUR is a five piece collective of composers living all over the planet. It all started in the year 2000 in Tokyo when Stephane Holweck (Total Eclipse, Juno Reactor) and Michio Baba decided to write music and made a track together. After getting back to Europe, Florien Seriot, Gru and Loic Vanpoucke joined the band. Getting every body together in the studio proved impossible so they started to meet and write through the web using their computers running the same software. It was a truly unique experiment in music composition and certainly a successful one. One of the Twisted classics.

Tracks:

010 Seti 101
Chilam Balam
Smokemon - Chiluemon Mix
The Blooming - Change Mix
Nadeshiko's Dream
Run Time
Mass
"Saute Mouton" Syndrome
Hi-Fi Companions - Swingers In Paradise

This is a new project, a collaboration of classic electronic artists, Eat Static's Merv Pepler and Tangerine Dream's Steve Jolliffe. This proved to be a dynamite combination as Merv's extensive knowledge of modern sampling methods combined with Steve's classical training, from the Berlin school of music alongside other famous electronic pioneers like Kraftwerk to form the Hi-Fi Companions. Steve had even been a formative member of Supertramp and over the years had developed his own production of modern music, having seen Eat Static and met Merv in the studio he realised the similarity in tastes they have today and this connection formed the Hi-Fi Companions and paved the way for the album, 'Swingers in Paradise'.

Much like the artists that made it, its a mature look at lounge music, sound images from their main influences, Ennio Morricone, Russ Meyer's movies, really musicianship mixed with a modern electronic twist, very much like Ralph Myerz recent stardom with his porn sound tracked beat cocktails, Hi-Fi Companions reekes of 50's parties, 60's saxophone and synthesisers yet has the modern breaks and beats of today's lounge music. This is lounge with style, not throw away background music, but modern engaging music, full of real instrumentation from classical trained musicians but with a depth that can only come from experience and a real sense of history. Old and new combine to form a modern electronic music on the rocks.

This album is massively underrated. Definitely a worthwhile addition to the collection.

Tracks:

I Croon On Ermine
Strange Rampage
Skyclad
Thrill Seeker
A Night In Timisoara
Orgazmonaut
Swingers In Paradise
Dr. Phibes
Bin Liner
Amoria
The Livin' End
Doof - Let's Turn On

Like Hallucinogen's classic album 'Twisted', Nick Doof's first album, 'Let's Turn On', has been in heavy demand since it was deleted in 1998. So to coincide with the release of his new album TWSCD11 'Doof It's About Time', Twisted Records reissued the first album on CD only. This is a timeless album that sold in excess of 10,000 copies when it was originally released and has been a sought after trance classic ever since. The CD/Download features the original artwork and tracklisting.

Tracks:

Let's Turn On
Mars Needs Women - 96 Mix
Youth Of The Galaxy - Final Demand Mix
Double Dragons
Sunshrine
Secret Sun - Sunbeam Mix
Angelina
Destination Bom
Star Above Parvati - Bijli Mahadev Mix
Doof - It's About Time

Nick Doof is one of the pioneering names behind the psy trance sound along with Man With No Name, Hallucinogen and Juno Reactor. Anthemic trancefloor classics like "Gift Of The Gods" (NovaMute), 'Let's Turn On' (TIP) and 'Mars Needs Women' (TIP) made him an international name and a favourite with Derrick May, Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Tsuyoshi. His first album, 'Let's Turn On' (deleted until re-released by Twisted Records) sold in excess of 10,000 and gained a lot of attention from the music press, radio DJ's and MTV (for the video for "Mars Needs Women").

He is also renowned for his excellent, slightly darker releases under the name Citizen Caned with Benji Vaughan aka Prometheus. He has played all across the world - from Mexico and Brazil to Japan and New York. His outstanding closing sets at the Boom festival (to 10,000 people) and in Ibiza for September's outdoor full moon party have secured Nicks' place as one the best and most sought after late morning DJ's in the world. It's About Time is a sign of the progression he has made as an artist and producer. With a wider scope of sounds, more subtlety and attention to detail, he has broken out of the trance-dance straightjacket into lusher, more melodic rhythmic soundscapes.

This album covers many different styles - from full on trance mayhem like "Home on the Strange" to Ibiza style sunset house, deep bass driven dubs such as "Sk.2K" to blissful ambient funk like "Yesterday's Future" (remixed by the Underwolves). His dubbier tracks have found favour amongst the new breed of back room DJ's - Pathaan of Stoned Asia caned "Star above Parvati (Bhijli Mahadev Mix) when on tour with David Bowie.

It's About Time is definitely a different tempo from the last album but there is no real change in direction - Doof's music is still characterised by his love of melody, amazing rhythmic fluidity, spatial awareness and a yearning for the infinite.

Tracks:

Try
Dawn Of A New Error
Last Half Of Forever
Home On The Strange
Sk.2k
Dark Secrets Of The Manky Fudgepocket
Nights In The Shining Alma
(There's Nothing So Dated As) Yesterdays Future
Various - Backroom Beats 2

Another instalment of Backroom Beats, much has stayed the same, the Backroom is still the chill out room, host to a thousand different beats and pieces, but everything else has progressed at the speed of sound as new worlds of broken beats, electro-dub, world fusions, and angelic ambience have emerged. The label continues to go from strength to strength with artist albums from, Electroslide 'Near Life Experience' (BBEAT002CD) and TOIRES' 'Sanati' (BBEAT003CD) claiming critical appreciation and a seemingly rapturous applause considering their inconspicuousness. Electroslide receiving 5/5 from 7 Magazine's reviewer, Rob McCracken's as well as radio play list placement on Jazz FM's (102.2FM), 'Late Lounge' sessions The TOIRES album although not officially released yet is already getting a good reception with 4/5 from DJ Pathaan in DJ Magazine (No.20/Vol.3) this month.

All of these recent credits pale in significance however when compared to the phenomenal rise to stardom that the last track from Backroom Beats 1 has been experiencing, 'Venice Beach' by The Egg and remixed by Benji Vaughan (aka Prometheus) was picked up and been licensed to the new Ministry of Sound, 'Chillout Ibiza 2002' compilation as well as the new Big Chill compilation, 'The Big Chill Loves You' with pride of place half way through the first CD. The Egg may be appearing as last minute guests at the next Big Chill Festival and will be appearing at The Samothraki festival in Greece on the 24th of August alongside their VJ Todd who synchronises visuals with their songs, for example surfers at sunset in Surfers Paradise Australia with,' Venice Beach'.

They are not the only ones doing it though, as mention we have released a whole album by Electroslide and you can expect more from Esion Jim, Contraband, Younger Brother, Doof, and the other artists. Orchestral World Groove have been busy making tracks for a new compilation on EMI called, 'Music For Dreams' alongside the book. The Underwolves have just released their album on Jazzanova Compost Records, complete with a remix album. Ott has just finished remixing 6 classic Hallucinogen tracks for a 'Hallucinogen In Dub' album due out soon, (TWSCD16). Tristan has just released his Mix CD (TWSCD18), first in our series, "Twisted Sessions" which will be followed by his album Substance in November.

So expect another package of beautifully crafted backroom beats, made to make you skin up big style although these should be a little bit more summer, warming up from the last album with some more funk and jazz breaks. Expect Royksopp-esque synthesis from Ott's track, 'Joyous Wonder', blissful melodies with 'Lost At Sea', from The Egg another funky chiller from Contraband, and a Stereo Deluxe oriental groove from Esion Jim along with plenty more off-kilter psy-beats.

Further good news is that fashion officiando Maharishi has done the cover artwork again so prepare to be graphically rearranged and styled in camouflage.

Tracks:

Lost At Sea - Vocal Mix
Humanise
Brasil
Sapphire Eyes
Halcyon Daze
Never-Ending - Fock It Mix
Easy Does It
Chaine A Chaine
Joyful Wonder
Spacebaby - Seiberg & Witten Mix
Need To Know - Bushmen Freefall Mix

'Backroom Beats' is the downbeat label from Twisted Records presents a collection of downtempo beats for the 'backroom'. This compilation represents a new development in chill out music; based on the best of downbeat, nu-funk, jazz breaks, deep house, dub, and classic lounge, the styles found in chill out rooms worldwide, but remixed and given a sonic 'twist' by our talented Twisted artists.

Here you will find some of the best downbeats artists in the world; including Ned Kelly and Professor Stretch from The Underwolves, DJ Pathaan and Gaudi as Orchestral World Groove, Ned & Maff Scott from The Egg, Twisted's star producer Hallucinogen (aka Simon Posford), Dick Trevor from Science Department, Neil Cowley from The Brand New Heavies, Willy B from Glyder, Nick Doof and Benji Vaughan as Citizen Kaned, Tristan and John Mark as Event Horizon, and Steph from Total Eclipse as Digital Mystery Tour plus a number of excellent producers new to the chilled scene.

All these musicians have taken these popular new styles and given them a thorough reworking to produce a sound that is unique to today, left of leftfield, lounge-core over lounge, intricate sounds not dull dubs. Sounds that go beyond the pale of the numerous chill out albums released each week 'Backroom Beats' are exclusive tracks blended into a modern fusion of organic grooves with digital mastery. Along with the 'Desert Cloud' camouflage cover artwork designed by Maharishi, it not only sounds good, it looks good too.

Tracks:

The Receptive - Jacuzzi Mix
Somersettler
Who Killed Franklin - Texas Chainsaw Massacre Mix
Yesterdays Future - The Underwolves Remix
Lost In Bass
Endless Ocean
The Blooming
Purple
Star Over Parvati - Orchestral World Groove Remix
Easy Glyder
Venice Beach - Remix
Various - Unusual Suspects 2

This release features 8 tracks of cutting-edge psychedelic trance of the calibre that one has come to expect from Twisted. A full half of this CD consists of collaborations by label owner and pioneering trance producer Simon Posford.

The CD opens up with a track by his highly successful project with Benji Vaughn, Younger Brother: 'Epic Hair' starts kind of light yet moody before a circular melodic synth line deepens its hypnotic effect Hot on its tail is a new project joining Posford with Psychaos' Joti Sidhu, Audio Chemistry. Their offering, 'Long Long Arms', combines one of Joti's signature rhythmic synth riffs with Simon's harmonic structure as they build into the frenzied intensity for which they are both famous. Twisted stars Hallucinogen and Tristan pal up next in 'Stretch-tastic', a bouncy tribal track with a whacking kick and a wild range of sonic madness that has already been blowing minds around the world in these artists' performances. Benji Vaughn of Prometheus continues to push the envelope, crossing genres and mixing it all up in his quirky number 'Oscar', whose glittering sounds, funky baseline, and unusual harmonies will have dancefloors shaking. Tristan's solo number 'Lost and Profound' is an uplifting alternative to the recent absence of real morning music; it's a fresh, airy track with an energizing twang that leaves you refreshed. 'Balloon Dance' by Metal Sharon, Simon's project with Merv (Eat Static), a full-on track is but a taste of what listeners have in store in their upcoming album, to be released on Twisted in 2007. Tristan and Prometheus team up to deliver what will surely be an international hit, 'Grow More Pot'. This thumping track has relentless momentum, with driving drum loops and screeching sounds that will be raising the roof on parties worldwide. Closing this winning comp is a true surprise – a trance track by a twisted ambient genius under the name Hikikomori. 'Black Ops' is an old school trance number with his quintessentially clear soundscapes.

Tracks:

Epic Hair
Long Long Arms
Stretch Tastic
Oscar
Lost And Profound
Balloon Dance
Grow More Pot
Black Ops
Younger Brother - A Flock Of Bleeps

A winning collaboration between two of the psy-trance scene's best producers – the legendary Simon Posford (Hallucinogen) and the highly prolific Benji Vaughan (Prometheus). Younger Brother has become huge at underground parties and in the homes of trance fans everywhere. Prometheus' influence further accentuates the eclectic nature of this project with a wide range of sounds, samples, effects and beats that create unique fusion of musical fantastia, from tribal chants, hard driving rhythms, electronic effects, trance mayhem and very british samples from the Isle of White festival to famous voices from the past reminiscent of Mr. Scruff, Lemon Jelly, and Coldcut nostalgic sampling or Royksopp with it's mix of melodies and slow dancey beats.

A full hour of solid sound, this album is a long player with the tracks semi mixed so you just can't press stop before the end. There's never dull moment with Younger Brother. Always fresh, tasty and oh so trippy.

Tracks:

Weird On A Monday Night
The Receptive
Evil & Harm
Crumblenaut
Scanner
Even Dwarves Start Small
Magic Monkey Juice
Finger
Safety Zone
Bedtime Story
Ott - Blumenkraft

The most fantastic modern dub from West Country reclusive genius Ott, who's album really is 'over the top' in quality, depth and shinning brilliance. Spacey strings, chants, otherworldly noises and pertinent samples collide with his massive rub-a-dub beats and bass. Ott's music is a world to it's own, a pure undiluted atmospheric world of swirling stoned sound and colour. Indian to Arabic to African Ott's dub's are boundary-less and boundless in their, scope and strength. Ott's music is a paradox of dub, not stereotypically slow heavy sounds but at once an upbeat dancey dub full of light, world chants and funky beats, while still maintaining a slow and relaxed ambient groove. Following on from his 'Hallucinogen In Dub' album (TWSCD16) for Twisted this solo album is a selection of clean hard grooves and the best dub studio skills, echo, delay, phasing, instruments popping up out of the murk and then submerging again, skills of which Ott is a particular maestro.

Ott is no stranger to the studio, he has for the last 20 years been producing arranging and recording some of the most famous artists including Sinead O'Connor, The Orb, and Brian Eno. Working in a wide range of the best studios in the land from SARM East and West, Real World, and Ridge Farm to Foel in Wales. He has been interviewed in the producers/engineers bible Sound on Sound and is currently managed by Strongroom Management UK. He continues to work with many famous artists and along his travels has met up with our own master producer Simon Posford aka Hallucinogen, editing Shpongle. After hearing his studio skills Simon commissioned him to make this modern dub album as an antithesis to his own hurtling psy-trance music.

The results are as you shall see, startling, a stunning example of modern dub and one that is massive with all dance music and ambient music fans across the globe.

Tracks:

Jack's Cheese And Bread Snack
Somersettler
Splitting An Atom
Escape From Tulse Hell
Cley Hill
Billy The Kid Strikes Back
A Load Up At Nunney Catch
Spannered In Pilton
Smoked Glass And Chrome
Hallucinogen - Hallucinogen In Dub

Hallucinogen in DUB - Mixed by Ott
Back in 2002, unbeknownest to the London massive, deep within the English countryside lay a number of brilliant music producers. One of them was Ott (now living in Spain). So legendary were his skills and his massive dubs that Simon Posford commissioned him to do a remix album of his classic Hallucinogen tracks such as Gamma Goblins, Solstice, Angelic Particles, & LSD amongst others. Shpongle meets Hallucinogen meets Ott. Dubs so phat they make your eyeballs vibrate and so complex you can barely breath in case you miss something.

Ott and Simon first met at Butterfly Studios where Ott was working as freelance engineer for Youth. Since then he has gone on to work in nearly every famous studio one could name, from SARM East and West, Real World, and Ridge Farm to name a few. He is currently managed by Strongroom Management UK and has continued to work with a number of famous artists and producers in music business, including Sinead O'Connor, The Orb, and Brian Eno for which he was interviewed in Sound on Sound Magazine. So as you can see Ott is the master of ceremonies when it comes to studio equipment and production. With a spate of new material he is set to become a modern dub pioneer reshaping the already classic soundscapes of Hallucinogen's music with his studio trickery and plug-wizardry. The timelessness of some of the tracks listed below for remix is in many cases beyond description and as such the only person deserving of remix duties is this man, Ott.

Tracks:

Mi-Loony-Um! - A Floating Butterfly Stings Like A Bee Mix
Solstice - Warwick Bassmonkey Mix
Gamma Goblins - It's Turtles All The Way Down Mix
Spiritual Antiseptic - Minty Fresh Confidence Mix
L.S.D. - World Sheet Of Closed String Mix
Angelic Particles - Buckminster Fullerine Mix
Prometheus - Robot-O-Chan

Producer Benji Vaughan aka PROMETHEUS is one of Twisted Records leading trance acts, along with Tristan and Hallucinogen he forms the forefront of the international trance scene, playing gigs as Prometheus, and Younger Brother with Simon Posford in Greece, Japan, Finland, Denmark, Mexico, and Philadelphia so far this year alone. Benji has been making trance music under various guises since the early 90's and has featured as Prometheus/Younger Brother on Twisted, Prometheus on Dragonfly and Cyberbaba's with Raja Ram on TIP Records always making the most cutting edge sounds and taking trance into new directions.

As a producer he has been branching out into the world of dance music in general, as Contraband for Backroom Beats and JUNK, a house outfit with Joe William's from The Light/PFN who have been getting play from Sasha, Nick Warren, Steve Lawler, and John Digweed and all the big house DJ's, remix work for EMI & Jive Records and producing a new album for The Egg. He has also won several awards including a recent one from Sony for his soundtrack to a Nike advert.

It is his trance output however that he is most famous for even from his earliest single, 'Clarity from Deep Fog' with Process, right up to his latest, 'Number Cruncher/ Snakes & Ladders' in which Prometheus has shown his own imitable psy-style, dancefloor testimony to his skills in the studio and ability to move an audience. His sets at Samothraki dance festival in Greece and elsewhere have been the highlights of the event as in Finland and Japan recently where he played to several thousands in Osaka and Tokyo.

Now he is back with a new solo album of trancefloor killers, as tracks like 'Samothraki', 'Mekong Delta', 'O.K. Computer', 'Universe', and 'U.R. Beautiful' go to show, Prometheus like a phoenix bird from the ashes of the fire once again raised the standard of trance music to a new level and left a burning mark on the worldwide trance scene. Look out for this one from the "King of Basslines".

Shpongle - Shpongle Remixed

Having released two albums by the time this came out and made an international name for themselves on the dance scene sonically manipulating sound, Shpongle finally got some of their own treatment, with a special album of Shpongle remixes. Shpongle has been a unique phenomenon, selling over 50,000 albums through word of mouth alone, giving them an enviable underground and worldwide reputation. Their albums continue to sell and sell as other trendier phenomena rise and fall, Shpongles fanbase expands worldwide growing all the time.

Having built a decent body of work from their first two albums, live gigs and with work starting on a third, we felt they deserved a remix album. The remix album has some stunning and varied contributions from all sorts of modern music producers, dance mixes by Eat Static and Twisted all-stars Prometheus and Tristan (as 'Delusions of Grandeur'), a classic trancey mix by Total Eclipse, extraordinary electro from Finland's Brothomstates (Warp Records), electro-dub by Ott, and an amazing jazzy breakbeat mix by Twisteds latest signing The Western Rebel Alliance.

Remixing Shpongle was always going to be a challenge that even the bravest remixer took to heart. Shpongle have taken the sound so far with their innovative ambient world dance music over the last few years. That has been the challenge however and the remixers have risen to it well, keeping some of the original flavour while adding their own unique character and so giving the listener a new sound to Shpongle.

Tracks:

Crystal Skulls - (Western Rebel Alliance Remix)
And The Day Turned To Fright - (Eat Static Remix)
Star Shpongled Banner - (Brothomstates Remix)
A New Way To Say "Hooray!" - (Prometheus Remix)
My Head Feels Like A Frisbee - (Delusions Of Grandeur Remix)
Dorset Perception - (Total Eclipse Remix)
Around The World In A Tea Daze - (Ott Remix)
Once Upon The Sea Of Blissful Awareness - (Esionjim Remix)
Shpongle - Nothing Lasts...But Nothing Is Lost

The title of Shpongle's newest album, 'Nothing Lasts' is a reference to Terence Mckenna, one of their many influences. The inimitable audio pioneers, Simon Posford & Raja Ram remind us not only the about the impermenance of life but also how to rewrite the ambient agenda with yet more spell binding music from their outer cosmos that is 'Shpongle'. With sonic waves in a sea of synths, battalions of brazilian batucada beats, flamenco & piano solo's, vocal soarings from Hari Om and trancey dubs this really is more music from the otherworld. A place of undefinable and indescribable beauty where all cultures collide, genres are rode over roughshot, and nothing is outlawed. For those that know them these will be the sentiments they recognise and welcome as further evidence of Shpongle's reputation. To those that don't, welcome to a new universe at one with it's own language and musical map, a place of beauty and impermenance.

Tracks:

Botanical Dimensions
Outer Shpongolia
Levitation Nation
Periscopes Of Consciousness
Schmaltz Herring
Nothing Lasts...
Shnitzled In The Negev
...But Nothing Is Lost
When Shall I Be Free?
The Stamen Of The Shamen
Circuits Of The Imagination
Linguistic Mystic
Mentalism
Invocation
Molecular Superstructure
Turn Up The Silence
Exhalation
Connoisseur Of Hallucinations
The Nebbish Route
Falling Awake
Shpongle - Tales Of The Inexpressible

In 1998 'Shpongle', the popular ambient project from Simon Posford and sonic co-pilot Raja Ram, released their epic first album on Twisted Records to worldwide critical acclaim. This is the second instalment to this seminal album with even more groundbreaking programming and genre busting fusions. Continuing on where they left off the latest album reaches further into the realms of the outside world with unique fusions using live musicians and vocalists blending acoustic guitars, Turkish operatic singing, Latin percussion, Arabic atmosphere's and Raja's unmistakable flute lines all sonically manipulated by Simon's incredible production skills.

This album like the last, is so musically pleasing and audible complex as to defy clear description, but just as the first album sold over 20,000 copies, we anticipate 'Tales of The Inexpressible' to appeal to an ever increasing audience, regardless of the indefinable nature of their sound. Shpongle is not a collection of dull ambient soundscapes, it is a bright multi coloured journey into an audio hyper reality, full of adventure and imagination. With amazing reports from listeners worldwide and still more people discovering this unique sound each day Shpongle has paved the way for a new style of multi-layered highly complex and detailed music for the millennium. Both Simon Posford & Raja Ram are avid musicians with a mission and are constantly touring the world to spread the Shpongle sound.

Shpongle - Are You Shpongled?

Shpongle's first album needs no introduction anymore. Its release in 1998 saw a new world unfurl right in front of everybodies eyes. Nobody is ever the same again after this album. Still selling today as well as it ever did... its success is simply astounding. Simon Posford and RajaRam really hit the nail on the head with this collaboration, the echoes of which are resonating stongly through the consciousness of all who heard it. They now have three albums and a Remixes album with a fourth one well underway. For 10 years they've been globetrotting to all corners of the world playing this music, from the top of Mount Fuji in Japan to valleys and beaches in Brazil, to clubs in Russia and now back to London for the first UK performance of Shpongle LIVE with a 7 piece band taking place on Halloween 2008. Almost exactly 10 years after the first release.

This album spawned a legion of imitators, but no one ever came close to attaining what these two have achieved time and time again. Stand by for their fourth album coming soon. In the meantime, get your mind into this and out of everything, because this, ladies and gentlemen, is where it all began.

Tracks:

Shpongle Falls
Monster Hit
Vapour Rumours
Shpongle Spores
Behind Closed Eyelids
Divine Moments Of Truth
And The Day Turned To Night

Tracks:

Divine Moments Of Truth - (Instrumental Remix)
Divine Moments Of Truth - (Shpongle Trance Remix)
Divine Moments Of Truth - (Original Russian Bootleg Mix)
Tristan - Stalking / The Temple

Alpha Activity is a solid groove train into ecstasy, this track builds and builds over a period of 5 minutes, excentuated by psychedelic groans, growls, and snarls, it has a pure dirty groove feel to it and will rumble the dancers anywhere in the world.

The Temple- starting off with what sounds like an international train station warped by a huge phasing bass, a breakdown with monumental amounts of suspense, panned and echoed bongos rolls, building drum breaks, peaking robotic synth bleeps, and the largest kick known to human kind.

Stalking The Wild Controller will certainly take you beyond your threshold. The bongos start of a rolling groove while the cymbals quicken the pace to fever pitch; all the time kicking and kicking, more squeaks, squeals, and squelches, until you reach a plateau of calm solid beats. But this relentless track does not stop there, bongos and kicks abound as Tristan takes the dancer yet further into the journey, travelling through a wall of voices and psy sounds until finally pushing you over the threshold and

Tracks:

Stalking The Wild Controller
The Temple
Alpha Activity
Hallucinogen - Mi-Loony-Um!

" width="200" height="200" style="float: left; margin: 0px 8px 8px 0px;" />

Mi-Loony-Um!
A track literally made for the moment, was conceived and produced especially for the millennium. Played to around 6,000 people on the eve of the new millennium at midnight in South Africa at the Vortex party, it transports Twisted firmly into the 21st century. Like many classic Hallucinogen tracks this one takes on what can only be described as 'epic' proportions. From the initial tick-tock of the clock approaching midnight to the surreal sounds of medieval court music that spirals into a whirlwind of breaks and phased effects that glide across a solid kick. This starts of a monstrous build up as the track begins to pick up the pace before floating onwards and upwards, riding on Simons trademark arpeggio's gated kicks and pitch bends, that take the track into spiralling ecstasy. Around halfway Mi-Loony-Um! breaks down into a warm sub-bass chunking session that begins another massive circling build up taking the crowd yet higher. At this point Timothy Leary pronounces, "I became tuned in on the network of neurological signals and cellular wisdom's that radiate at hundreds of millions per second". This is the cue for the track to go supersonic on the superhighway as hundreds of modems start initialising. Simon creates intricate melodies out of dialling tones underpinned by the same solid kick and interspersed with drum breaks and huge electro phasers that break back into these modern modem melodies. Along with these melodies 'Mi-Loony-Um!' continually adds more pace and force spiralling higher and higher into a crescendo of electronic squeaks and whistles, beats and breaks strange sounds that eventually fades into a fatboy slim breakdown of distorted voices.

L.S.D. Oliver Lieb Remix
The Oliver Lieb mix keeps the character of this timeless classic L.S.D using the original samples while adding his own classic production. Not so much a psychedelic affair this is a strong lateral progressive trance that grooves with smooth synths on a classic house shuffle. Until around three and a half minutes when it cuts into a huge house beat that takes off on a series of cymbal rolls and crash rides before breaking down into a solid 4/4. This strong four four beat accompanied by angelic synth lines is sure to lift the spirits of any dancefloor. Would appeal to Oliver Lieb supporter's aswell as a wider house fanbase.

Beautiful People
A classic track from the Hallucinogen Sound labs. Deep dark and Twisted it hits all the right buttons. There is also the Ott remix of this track on the Demented compilation. Its a reference to the beautiful crowds at psychedelic parties. Sometimes dark but always beautiful.

Tracks:

Mi-Loony-Um!
L.S.D - (Oliver Lieb Remix)
Beautiful People
Hallucinogen - The Lone Deranger

Hallucinogen's debut album 'Twisted', released in 1995, set the standard for the then burgeoning trance scene, showing him to be a true pioneer and master of his art. Then in 1997 he released his second album 'The Lone Deranger' this time on his own label, with another fine selection of his own particular brand of psychedelic techno. The album was recorded in Dorset at Hallucinogen's Sound Labs and has eight tracks including single release 'Deranger'.

Hallucinogen (aka Simon Posford) put out his debut single 'L.S.D' in 1994 on Dragonfly Records, followed by 'Fluoro Neuro Sponge' in '95 and the album 'Twisted' in October that year. 'Twisted' sold well in the UK and throughout Europe, reaching no.26 in France's national chart. The next release was the single 'Space Pussy' in March '96 and was his last release on Dragonfly.

At the end of '96 Simon formed Twisted Records with partner Simon Holtom (ex label manager of Dragonfly) releasing 'Deranger' in January '97. In 1998 he furthered his reputation as a live act, playing throughout the year including such notable events as Big Love and Tribal Gathering in the UK, the Quartz Festival in Norway and traveling to New York with the Return to the Source crew.

In 1999 he returned to New York with RTTS in January, played in Japan in February and headlined his own tour during March in conjunction with Megadog playing seven sold out dates around the UK. On 30th may he played at the Twisted Records launch party and in June headlined at the New Frontier Festival in Amsterdam. In 2000 he played at Womad on 27th july, the Lizard Festival in Cornwall, 8th August when he once again joined forces with the Megadog crew, and travelled to LA on the 13th of September for the last night of the Big Top Tour - a major US event featuring some of the UK's finest dance acts.

Hallucinogen has become a household name amongst the psychedelic people of the world and his third and final album is eagerly awaited by us all.

Hallucinogen - Twisted
This album has sold and sold hitting the dance charts in the UK and France and played at thousands of parties world wide. It features all his early top tunes. The infamous 'LSD', recently remixed by Oliver Lieb (TWST/C13). Alpha Centauri, Shamanix, Snarling Black Mabel, Flouro Neuro Space, and Solstice. These tracks are timeless dance hits that are as relevant now as they ever were, propelling the dancer high into the stratosphere and into the beyond. Beware. Includes bonus track at the end of the album (which is not on any other download site).

Flexitones - Joyrider

The Flexitones album Joyrider is one of the latest offerings from Twisted Records' sub-label, Backroom Beats. The much anticipated collaboration between EatStatic's Merv Peppler and Will White of the Propellerheads couldn't have come at a better time as both the artists have been looking for the opportunity to produce music other than that with a banging 4/4 beat. This is certainly an album of difference, merging the Propellerheads seductive trip-hop grooves, and the countless influences both Will and Merv have had.

The album is of epic lounge proportions covering laidback beats, modern dubs, and chilled funky grooves, coupled with the Propellerheads know-how in creating hard hitting, infectious rhythm tracks has given both Wil and Merv the opportunity, after many an intensive studio session, to express the various styles of music that both artists have been heavily influenced by and longing to express for themselves. The album is an outstanding showpiece of the collective skills of these two artists and is certainly a development from the Propellerheads and the
